A Brief Introduction to SCH
Suining Central Hospital (SCH) originated from "Boji Hospital" founded by the British Religious Society of Friends in 1914 and has a history of over 100 years. It has now developed into a third-grade Class-A comprehensive hospital integrating medical care, teaching, scientific research, prevention and health care as a whole, and has been successively awarded "National Advanced Unit of Spiritual Civilization Construction ", "Provincial Best Civilized Unit", "Advanced Unit of Sichuan Health System", "Provincial and Municipal Consumer Satisfaction Unit", "National Excellent Baby-friendly Hospital". SCH undertakes the teaching tasks of more than 10 medical colleges and universities in and outside Sichuan. It is a non-direct affiliated hospital of North Sichuan Medical College and Chongqing Medical University, a postgraduate student joint training base of Chongqing Medical University, North Sichuan Medical College and Zunyi Medical University, one of the first batch of national standardized residency training bases, a provincial specialist doctor standardized training base, and a provincial general practitioner post training base. It is the international friendly cooperation hospital of Hospital Universitari Mútua Terrassa (HUMT), Spain and Centre Hospitalier Universitaire d'Angers (CHU-Angers), France. It ranked among the first institutions in Suining to establish academician workstations in November 2016. SCH is one of the 500 large comprehensive hospitals nationwide, ranking 61st on China's Top 100 Prefecture-level City Hospital list and 7th on Sichuan's Top 30 hospital list in 2017. Since it first ranked among China's Top 100 Prefecture-level City Hospitals in 2013, its ranking has risen year by year. SCH has a long history, a profound cultural background, and a good social reputation. It always persists in the developing strategy of "attaining prosperity through science and technology, getting stronger by talents cultivation", and adheres to the "life-saving and patient-centered" service tenet. With outstanding talents, exquisite technologies, excellent scientific research and teaching abilities, and quality service, SCH undertakes the tasks of medical care, prevention, and health care for 3.8 million people in Suining and altogether nearly 10 million people plus those from the adjacent areas of Sichuan and Chongqing.
SCH had been successively named "Third Hospital of North Sichuan Administrative Region", "People's Hospital of Suining Prefecture", "Second People's Hospital of Mianyang Prefecture", "Suining Municipal People's Hospital", and was ultimately named "Suining Central Hospital" in November 2008. It covers an area of 295 mu, of which the headquarters is 61mu, the Hedong Branch 183 mu (The first-phase construction project came into service on January 25, 2014; the second phase is under construction), and the Infectious Disease Hospital 51 mu. SCH has 157,629 square meters of medical service areas and 20,531 square meters of auxiliary areas. It houses 2100 authorized beds and 2600 beds are actually open at present. The outpatient visits amounted to 1.71 million person-time and the inpatient discharges were nearly 95 thousand person-time in 2017.
The hospital presently has 2350 staff including 2118 professional and technical personnel, of whom 408 have senior professional titles and 497 have intermediate professional titles, 431 have master's or doctor's degrees, and 2 enjoy the State Council Special Allowance. There are 17 vice-chairmen, standing committee members, members of national academic professional committees, and 192 of provincial academic professional committees. In recent three years, the staff have published 1705 research papers including 42 SCI papers in the core medical journals at home and abroad and won 39 provincial and municipal Science and Technology Progress Awards; 27 scientific research projects at provincial and department levels have been approved and 31 scientific research projects have passed the municipal Scientific and Technical Achievements Appraisal. SCH has successfully applied for 2 National Natural Science Foundation Projects, and signed an academician employment agreement to establish the first academician workstation in Suining.
SCH presently houses 23 first-level clinical disciplines, 39 second-level disciplines, 50 clinical specialty groups, 47 wards, 10 first-level medical technology departments, and 31 second-level medical technology groups. Based on the systematic classification and integration of diseases, the hospital has established in Hedong Branch Respiratory Disease Center, Cardiovascular Center, Digestive Disease Center, Orthopedic Center, Neurological Center, Nephrology Department, Blood Purification Center, as well as advanced digital ICU and operating room. SCH presently boasts 3 provincial key disciplines including Radiology, Cardiovascular Center, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and 14 provincial key clinical specialties including Gastroenterology, Hepatobiliary surgery, Neurology, Pediatrics, Respiratory Medicine, Neurosurgery, Urology, Ophthalmology, Clinical Laboratory, Orthopedic Center, Stomatology, Gastrointestinal Surgery, Dermatology, and nursing. It has also established Suining Emergency Center, Suining Branch Center of Huaxi Tele-consultation and Teaching, and Suining Tele-diagnosis Center. SCH pays great attention to discipline construction. It strives to forge superior discipline groups, and with key disciplines and clinical specialties as the leaders to promote the continuous development of academic technologies. At present, various delicate and major operations of heart, brain, liver, kidney, thorax, abdomen and spine are performed and patients with difficult and severe diseases are diagnosed and treated in SCH. In recent years, endoscopes such as laparoscope, thoracoscope, hysteroscope, choledochoscope, arthroscope, resectoscope are widely used in different departments, and minimally invasive interventional techniques develop fast. The hospital's comprehensive capability of medical care remains at advanced levels in the province compared with hospitals of the same class. With advanced HIFU techniques, patients treated cumulatively at the HIFU Center of SCH have exceeded 6000 which makes it the largest HIFU center in the world.
SCH has more than 300 sets of advanced medical equipment such as dual source CT, 1.5T MRI, DSA(Digital Signature Algorithm), High Intensity Focused Ultrasound Treatment System (HIFU), Mobile C-Arm, DR, Digital Mammography, Multi-functional Digital Gastrointestinal Machine, ECT, Electron Linear Accelerator, Radiation Treatment Planning System, upscale Color Doppler Ultrasonic Diagnostic Apparatus, Full Automatic Biochemical Analyzer. The facilities and informatization level of ICU and Operating Room in Hedong Branch are domestically first-class. At present, the total value of the hospital's facilities amounts to 650 million Yuan.
SCH adheres to the principle of public welfare, actively takes its social responsibilities, and safeguards people's health with unswerving efforts. It actively participates in community health service and grass-roots health work, and has successfully completed the tasks of dealing with public health emergencies including infectious atypical pneumonia, Human Streptococcus suis infection, human avian influenza, influenza A (H1N1), serious traffic accidents, great earthquake rescue, mass food poisoning and providing medical safeguard services for the manned spaceflight engineering projects.
